YES IT IS CAST IRON. A FARRIER USED THIS PIECE AND THE LITTLE KID IS PUSHING THE CART. YOU CAN SEE SOMETHING SAT ON TOP. IT COULD BE A HEATING UNIT USED TO MELT DOWN LEAD OR OTHER METALS FOR MOULDING AND MAKING FARRIER (HORSE SHOER) PARTS.
