Okay, Douglas, now we are both contributing to the long line of "gathering commentary" :)
I've been around the Internet Newsgroups and these kind of sites long enough to know how the trolling or fishing for comments system works. You can use honey or vinegar, depending on your mood. ;)
Anyway, I haven't been hooked by 'Sweet talking"
I too hate the ranking system on this site. You have a very valid point when you gripe about the unfairness of the numbers given to some images.
When I joined this site in 2004 I think I ranked one image and haven't ranked a single image since. I prefer comments to numbers that don't mean a thing.
I also decided a long time ago that I would give a thank you to every comment I get along with a little more conversation at times. I also decided a long time ago that I would reciprocate a comment, even if I have a hard time finding something in someone's portfolio that attracts me.
If someone doesn't pay me back, so be it. That never stops me from commenting on images that I like.
I hardly think that my process is the fault of the BEST photographers in Usefilm leaving forever.
As a matter of fact, I've even had a few good photographers tell me that they were thinking of leaving but would stay a little longer because they enjoyed my conversations with them.
Anyway, it's all only words in cyber space.

She's got you hooked Andre with her 'Sweet Talking Gathering Commentary' on a less than average 'Family Snapshot' with a 6.7 Rating that simply blows images such as this away with almost every Award except for 'Donor of the Day' ...

This is a good way to go when taking images of people Srna.
The trick is to have the basketball in the image. It becomes a comfortable prop for the boy, so that he looses his inhibitions and gives you a nice natural pose. It also adds interest to the image. Another good way to take shots of people is to have their pets in the image with them. You as the photographer can concentrate on the person. But, they are not so bothered because they assume the pet is the central focus.
