Very nicely done, Anthony, especially considering the conditions! When I look at your attachment the shot is even more amazing for the quality you've retained and the tremendous gain in compositional strength.

Haha - I just noticed, my GPS (SatNav) is showing (blush!)

As a postscript, here's the reason for the big crop, and it's pretty obvious why this aspect of the fair city of Avila has succumbed to C21 road safety! What fun!

Haha - no kidding. Talking about ancient, I visited the Pantheon in Rome the other week (posted a pic here) and THAT was constructed in AD 118 - and when you consider the perfect hemispherical dome, and all that it took to build it, Avila's walls PALE (relatively speaking, of course!).

Best,

Ant

Wow!! That's really going back in time... they sure knew how to build things to last in those days! ;-) I agree, the image is excellent. Thanks for all the good information about this beautiful place. I will make a note that this is a "must-see" if I come to visit Spain. Thanks again! :-)

BTW, I replied to your request for me to post the original of that Tuscan landscape I dry-brushed "Late Afternoon".

Warm regards,

Anthony

Thank you very much Brigitte. I actually love the way this shot appears, even though the huge crop has compromised technical quality, but I really don't care. To my eyes, it looks painterly, despite my having made very very few PS adjustments to the original - aside from the crop.

Avila's walls were constructed of brown granite in 1090: surmounted by a breastwork, with eighty-eight towers and nine gateways.

Very best wishes.

Wonderful place, Anthony. Shot turned out very nice all things considered. Hope you get a chance to go back and explore it further. Looks like a very neat place. Any idea how old this place is?
