About I call it block style... the image is broken down into great blocks of color. Sometimes I call it coloring book style... sections of image that stand alone and go together. Here, in this pic, is one of my proofs. Blue/Green/Red...sections of color that make the image seem simple and juvenile... yet on further examination... there are things going on... and life is more complex than blue and green and red.

On a more serious note... I will wager he "observed" it, rather than "invented" it.

I did some research. Seems you Oz,E's also invented:
Radio, the airplane, boxing, crayons, Easter, oxygen, the sun, grass, light bulbs, water, dogs, hair, the Panzer tank, listening, the pancreas, color, cows, interstellar reddening, glass, sand, opposable thumbs, hats, birds, punkins, poetry, the word "wrangle", "L", cowboys, feathers, social reciprocity, the deconstruct of values, John Wayne, bottle openers, shorthand, sarcasm, *sighs*, French bread, The Declaration of Independence, soy sauce, the Ruble, combs, tombs, bombs, dumb-waiters, (do ya like the way I did three letters and then a "b" there??) orgasms, forks, kittens, inventions, crime, justice and skirts... and some other few things I didn't have time to type.

Its actually called Colour Masses, it is a compositional device invented by a famous Australian photographer in the early 70's
