Thanks AJ, I appreciate the encouragement and am glad you saw the look as well. Rural America has traditions that will die hard. You can take a boy out of the country, but will seldom take the country out of the boy. We are mired in our love of the land and the responsibility for caring for it! Not the worst thing that could happen. Be well, Stan

And I can really follow very nicely how the quality of your candids gets better and better and better with time, Stan. It is getting to a small "photographic history" if you like. So, lots of things to see and learn from your shots, as I am completely inexperienced in this kind of photography.
Cheers and a nice week to you too! (Or what remains of the week. ;-))

Haha - the spurs and hat are great, but it is the serious determined look that make this!

Thanks Nick, your comment is appreciated. I am glad that you like what I am doing with my candid shots. It is a fun challenge to try and capture the essence of a moment in these shots. The more I shoot the more I feel comfortable with my camera and the people around it. Have a great week! Be well, Stan

And it was the best thing to happen, Stan, that he didn't knew what was happening to him and simply stood there! So the tough man was captured in all that attitude. ;-)
I think your choise for sepia was exactly right for this one, and the exposure was really good. No low light problems anywhere. It really looks as if it were out in the open air.
BTW your candids have also that "documentary" or "memory" look and feel many times, and that I find quite nice on your images. It's not only "just for the fun of it" but they are really good images too.
Keep well too and cheers, Stan!

Thanks Ray, these wranglers were so great. The kids were perpetual motion machines as they circled in the dirt floor barn. there was a cloud of dust that hung for an hour. Travel Safe! Be well, Stan

Thanks Nick, this was a candid that the cowboy never new happened. He was playing with some other kids and he was waiting his turn to impress them. The light was minimal in this barn and I was hoping to get some usable shots. With some post work I was able to clean it up. I went sepia because of the background and light. Thanks for your wonderful comment. I like your style my friend,be well, Stan

It really has quite an "aged" look both for the toning and also for the oval frame, Stan. The good details already say (technically) that it is not as "aged" but the overall impression remains the same. I think that grain-looking noise enhances this very well too.
The timing was another plus here. It brings a bit of a shapshot, but a well thought-out snapshot. It fits very well the look and feel of the image to have him looking to the distance like a "real big one". Determination as you say. ;-)
I find the plasticity of the face and of the rest of the outfit very well preserved too, as the exposure balance allowed all light-shadow transitions to show up.
Quite a good one!
Nick

Thanks Dave, this was a serious young wrangler. All of the kids got along so well and really had fun with the stick horses. There is an art to riding them. Saw several kids get tripped up while riding them. Be well, Stan

Yes Mitra, cowboys and cowgirls were having a great time. They did some barrel racing, then some bulldogging. It was a hoot. I had kids asking me to take their pictures. My grandson jumped right in with the rest of them. There were over 50 kids there and it was below zero outside. In the building this was in it was only low 40's. Tough kids in Montana.
