I could only second you on that Andre! A kind of "journal" of the own work is always good. Both in the sense of personal diary as also in the more technical sense. It really helps.
As about the subject, well it is the same with me too. I try to have my lengthy studies as thorough as I can, but this doesn't mean that I wouldn't shoot a bridge just because it doesn't belong to some given current study. It is many times like learning the new but also repeating the already "known" and finding something more about it - perhaps also in combination to the new.
Anyway, I sit back and watch your next steps with interest. Whatever it will be, it will be good.

I can honestly say, I don't know what comes next either. It probably makes sense to stick to some kind of similar subject matter for a while to attempt to get some competency in that field. On the other hand, I can't resist all the variety that presents itself out there.
I think the trick is to document how images were taken, in order to reproduce our successful images.

Such a good capture of the bird oin its flight, Andre! The timing was right on spot. Even if the gull wouldn't be lookong back to you the image would have benn very good, but that staring back gave it the right boost for being more than "good". And the shasp details make that look so clearly visible that one almost thinks to be watched very carefully by the bird.
I find the shining white of it also great but not only for the color. It is that the subtle shadows generate the plasticity of the very aerodynamically shaped body. So, this is really something meant to fly - this is what the look suggests to me. The good details on the tips of the wings make it then even better.
The great separation from the background allows the contours to be so well defined - and not to speak about the softening of the background under those blue colors. It is a gull right in its own habitat.

The best thing about these guys for me is that there are so many of them and they don't mind coming a bit close. That makes them great to practice on.
BTW, As of a few minutes ago, I have 3000 more to catch up to Yamil. :)
Maybe I'll get up real early tomorrow. Or maybe not, It's going to be -20C here tomorrow morning.

Very nice Andre! Ring Billed gulls are amoung my favorites, and always show such dexterity, such as this pose. The only thing i can see you would have to do to equal yamil is post 2999 more of thes shots :)

One of the things I picked up from Marcus is how important the eye contact is in a "bird in flight" image. Of course, you don't really know if you have it until later on. It sure makes a difference when you get that detailed eye in focus and looking right in the lens.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the nice comment. I could have easily added you and a couple of others to my about explanation. We have also had a few discussions that helped me improve my wildlife images. You probably noticed the high shutter speed on this one. That was one of your suggestions a while back. Now, I make a point of it where ever possible. The sharpness improves immensly.

Wonderful detailing captured here my dear Andre and hats off to those who inspired you for this looks great to me. I have tried shots like this myself but I haven't yet perfected the technique. Love the toning in the water interspaced by the ice and that beautiful yellow beak. I love too the beady eye that somehow manages to see all including your antics with 'a black box thingy that I can't eat' Well done to you my friend, great stuff.
