This tears at my heart. I have one I'll put up that does the same thing. Animals in zoos ok if there is freedom of movement and compassion of care, but not in prison cells.

Powerful, powerful, Malin -- an excellent capture, and I love your tones here, as well as your sense of composition.

I am glad my funny dog picture makes you happy :)

awesome what takes this beyond is the clarity of the bars and against the gritty background - gives it undeniable perspective...

a great document, i think all zoos should be closed and the poor animals treated cose so many time sometimes kils their instinctiv way for surviving, it causes me great pain to see things like this ...i believe you too...

I think you would enjoy the work from a German photographer, Britta Jaschnski. She has published a book called ZOO with black and white images from zoos all over the world. She has taken the art of portraiture, fragmented it and applied it to the shadowy world of the confined animal. You can see some of her stuff at --

Just click on the little suitcase next to her name in the list to see some of her photos. They are often abstract, but really make you think again about zoos. I love the grit/grain/texture of your series, what camera?

The anguish. Please keep posting this series, it really makes a strong statement. Which zoo were they taken at?

On a technical note, this one is a bit dark.
