I see exactly what you mean, Paul! It really got flatter on the crop. I don't have the impression (yet) that this does any harm, but I understand exactly what you mean.
Cheers!

wow, thank you for that, Nick.
Yes, I intended to leave some extra space to the left, to show the deep shadow, because the closer you crop to the centerline of the nose, the more this lighting could be seen as 'flat'.
As it is, the hard fall-off on the left gives the 'edge' I wanted to inject in this shot.
Again, thanks.

Exactly! Without reading even the title I thought of that specific clockwork, Paul! You really nailed that so clear and so exactly in that sense! The eye in exactly the maximum of sharp focus while the rest starts getting softer and softer in front or behind the DoF, is quite exclusive - it is elegant and unshameful, fragile and hard at the same time. The very tight color palette stands in excellent agreement to that too. I am receiving an indefinite hard question about my own self, and also another one, almost fearful question about the "other's" self - both of them converging to that unsolvable kind of quite riot that emerges from the seamless exchange of positions between the spectator and the subject of study. Who is studying whom, anyway? This is what I think of it.
I will only ask you, was the continuation of the face to the left, past moddle line of the nose necessary? Wouldn't an even tighter crop strenghten the "purity"? (Attachment).
Anyway, any further suggestion seems to be also one suggestion too much for such an image. Though I miss Kubrick a lot too, I think that on the other hand he never really left us when I see such images.
Cheers!
Nick

That's a neat twist, a feminine angle on the quintessential macho characters. For a while, Kubrick lived a few kilometres away from me, though as far as I know he never popped into the local pub, so I never met him. Good image, good homage. Regards, Gary

Well, probably not, Jen. Stanley Kubrick passed away in 1999. :( He was the director of Sparticus, 2001, Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and more.
