The repeating construction pattern introduced a "lattent" order in what one might perceive as too complex with the first look, Paul! And it somehow reminds me of general relativity - a frame or reference! The many different degress of luminocity on the different faces of the metal bars does support the pesprective very well. The whole contruction works much in the sense of leading lines - only that they are implicit in this case.
The bottom part does its work too for my eyes. It somehow makes the space more tangible. In another interpretation one might also tend to limit the image to the pure construction but then it looses some depth, doesn't it? (Attachment).
Now, if we also had a clock on each node then the general relativity would be perfect, but we can't tell the architects to make relativistic buildings, can we? ;-)
