SWEET! Congrats, Peta. You should consider an assistant or, at least, a monopod. A 5-pound lens wears can wear ya down fast.
Can't wait to see some of those razor-thin DOF shots, girl. Happy shooting, mate.

Excellent Peta - I like the high keay approach and the texture on the crate combines very well with the tomatoes. Fine work! Joggie (and I would love to meet you when you do come to SA!)

This is an exquisite high key shot, Peta, though I can see you in the foreground fruit, ya luscious tomato, you.

Hiya Peta, You have hit the nail on the head with this shot. Well seen and presented. I miss having the time to comment on all of my friends work. I hope that I can do a better job with that. We ( Kim and I ) just moved back to Phoenix and have been busier then heck lately. I am so loving your posts and am really happy for you with commercial work!
Keep up the AWESOME work!
My Best Regards

To answer the question that you posed to Peta, When you shoot at a wide aperture such as 2.8 or 5.6 The DOF is going to remain small. so most of the image will not be in perfect focus. The reason why you would want this in a shot is JUST why Peta has it in her Shot. You want the Eye to be drawn into the shot and not flying all over the place.
That is why her Composition is SPOT on. With the Diagonal position of the wood crate, the placement of the tomato outside of the box combined with the white BG bring this shot all together. Did you notice your eyes wandering all over the shot? Nope you didn't. Take a look at her placement decisions for the tomatos. You have diagonals, verticles and horizontials within the shot. All designed to bring the viewers eyes into the shot.
I hope that this helps you understand why she shot this the way she did.
Kind regards
Sam
PS
the techinically correct way to get the DOF is to stop your lens as wide of an aperture that you can go.....F2.8 = everything blurry but what you are focused on....F22 = most of everything is in focus.....foreground...mid ground...and Background.

Actually the lower right corner seems soft to me, but I think that was done intentionally... so that brings me to this question... why is it more desireable to have part of this type of image appear soft and other parts in focus? Is there any techinically correct way to create the soft area on an image? You got me thinking now...

They totally hired the right person for the job! Very professional. Love the layout too.... and especially the crystal clear image with perfect light! I wish I could get results even 1/4 close to this... I've got the tomatoes fresh from my garden, just not those great skills of yours! Beautiful! I think they're going to sell out of tomatoes as soon as this ad hits the papers! Well done! 7/7

Nice raw materials, like the grouping and color of this. The wood adds a nice line to the tomatoes. The vines are nice as well. Seems a little unsharp to me, but could be my eyes. Be well, Stan
