amazing... the portrait here is very good however the enviroment you have is AMAZING! unique and modern and somehow the sepia works even on a so modern architecture style.

A great decision to use the wide angle range of your lens, Julie! It made the perspective so strong to perceive as it works hand in had with the many lines and stripes of that background. BTW, great architecture too! It looks like a facade constructed by Picasso - a flat and still 3D object. Which is also so interesting on your image since you captured it excellently! I only don't know of the zig-zag-like look of those black lines is the result of pixelation or the real shape of them.

The coloring fits also very well - it reduces to the max. in an unspectacular way, that matches then the silent study. And the absorbed look of the student does the rest, adding the necessary isolation that is needed for any real study.

The overall look does convey very well the mental work, when somebody is surrounded by the very products of that work. In other words I see a double function of all those lines. They are real objects and then they are also the "infinitum of thoughts" in which the student is diving.

The free corner at the top right is perhaps a bit "contradictory" for the rest of the image. Or so I thought at first. But now I consider it also as a good possibility for enhancing the sense for depth, as the scene would look a bit flatter if that piece of sky weren't there.

Very good idea and very good shot too!

Nick

Such excellent dear Julie to bring this human "element" (please ask me to apologize to this lovely girl :) into your rich architectural universe.
Apart from the balanced composition you let her float such that she looks even more isolated.
Great observation and capture,
hugs and kisses from Paul
