Yeah I got one right and glad you agree with me. No we don't have that particular one in Washington State but we have some others. Last year I photographed our giant salamander but haven't found any others. I did find one baby horntoad that I will post later on usefilm.

Hiya Ernie and thank you for the posting, indeed you are exactly correct! I looked it up later myself before having seen your post. Even more specific, I found on our local DEC web site that all Newts are a sub-specie of Salamander. So all newts are Salamanders but not all Salamanders are newts. (Quite confusing lol) Do you have these little guys near you too? This was the first time I had seen one in all my years of living in New York! Cheers and thanks :)

Actually this is an Eastern Newt or the Red Spotted Newt. Notophthalmus viridescens has a large range East of the Mississippi from the Canadian border to Florida. They do secrete a toxic substance but are very docile. There are several subspecies. Neat critters.
