I like the way he takes up most of the frame so that we are focused on him, not the background. The scan looks a little dirty though... there are dust specks under his chin and above his head. The presentation of an image is all of these things, from the framing of the shot to the cleaning of the dust.
Nice DOF having the head in focus and the rest oof. I wish he was looking a little bit more into the camera so that we could see both big brown eyes!
I have two dogs and have experimented with taking their pictures... they can be hard to pose! I think you've done a good job.
