About This is what we call a "veldlikkewaan". Its scientific name is Varanus exanthematicus. It can grow to a length of 1.3 meter, is closely related to the Gilamonster from North America. It is not poisonous though, but it can bite and keep its grip while it uses its tail to whip its enemy (very hard!)if it feels threatened. It feeds mainly on invertebrates (locusts, snails, millipedes etc.). It will also scavenge and will eat anything small enough to overpower including birds and frogs. In South africa this specie's status is "vulnerable' and therefore it is protected.

Thanks to Joggie I finally found the name and the about of this happy creature:) Very greatful for this!!! xxJen

Hello Joggie, thanks for finding the name of this
beautiful reptile is it the same as a Savannah Monitor? For us blond Europeans it seems like an
out of space animal, it was quite huge but I really like them!! Do they bite people too???
I am so happy to know its a protected animal,
actually all animals should be protected I think:)
I will put your about on top, so people know what it is, very greatful to you again:) Might have more species to ask for...hope you dont mind!!
Wishing you a great evening, be well, xxJen

WOW Jen!!!!
This is great! Amazing clarity and details my friend.
I would run as fast as I could away from this big Iguana, I am not a fan of reptiles. You're so brave to get so close.
Enjoy the rest of your day honey. Talk soon!
Hugs and kisses,
