Location City -  Petra
State -
Country - Jordan   Jordan
About Petra (from πέτρα "petra", rock in Greek; Arabic: البتراء, Al-Butrā) is an archaeological site in Arabah, Aqaba Governorate, Jordan, lying on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. It is renowned for its rock-cut architecture.

The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was discovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was famously described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate prize-winning sonnet by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage." In 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage Site.

The Treasury was probably constructed in the 1st century BC. As its design has no precedent in Petra, it is thought that it was carved by Near-Eastern Hellenistic architects.

The purpose of the Treasury remains something of a mystery. One thing that is fairly certain, however, is that it was not a treasury. In reality, the Treasury is generally believed to be a temple or a royal tomb, but neither conclusion is certain.

Dedicated to my dear friend Parehan, which home
country is still on my mind, seen all this beauty
and felt the kindness of the people and specially her friendship:))

Have a lovely weekend dear friends, txs for being there, hugs Jenxx

wow, a salmon color structure built within its natural environment. very interesting capture, the architectural and the details are very well seen in this photo and the presence of the human gives scale as to how enormous this structure is. A real beauty and a very sample of man ingenuity.. good light and exposure Jen..
thanks for sharing this..
regards..
