Hi Eb
That D300 body provides you with more than most state of the art film SLR's could ever give. I doubt if more than 30% of the camera's capabilities are utilised by 95% of the new owners. Personally the body would more than satisfy most of my demands. I would rather spend money on better lenses/tripod/camera bag/flash etc. if I can and then upgrade 5 or 6 years down the line when the thing can fix you breakfeast too! Great day my friend!

Joggie, you are right, the D300 gives a noticeable dynamic range improvement of a least a stop. I made a bracketed set of exposures for this scene, thinking that I would need to do some exposure blending in HDR. To my surprise, it was not necessary! I did, very conservatively, use the Shadow & Highlights filter. I wonder what's next to render the D3/D300 obsolete? I can't continue to afford a new camera body every two years and reason that the pace of improvement has become too fast!

Eb - You perfectly captured this beautiful landscape. I like the perspective. The greens show up well in both sun and shade. Nice exposure.

Hi Eb - As an afterthought, i think the advances made with the newest sensors on the D300 and especially the D3 with much improved sensisitvity/latitiude in the shadow areas will go a long way to handle these contrasty situations. Regards.

Excellent work, Eb! There is so much here to like...ok, everything! From the detail of the pattern of petals in the grass with the sunlight in the shadows nearby...
...the darker tree branches in the sky reaching in and up along with their mirror image in the shadows on the grass and building - as if embracing - the sunlit church...
..and all the color combinations...
...all adds up to a wonderful image!
