And this remains the most fascinating thing to me, Avi! Perhaps also because it is a bit like a game of poker with all that agony when you just wait to see what the camera saw.

Cheers!

Nick

wonderful snow shot,
love the man (or maybe woman) walking faraway,
excellent contrast between the man and the whole scene,
all the best, mahassa

yes, I agree with you, that way we can achieve a similar 'in-camera' result too !! :)

Thank you so much for that, Avi!!!

I guess that for the "shining in black" steps 5 and 6 were immensely important!

Now, where are those images of singulary persons in black in the streets? Heheheeeee! ;-)

And to me it means that for a camera only approach, single spot metering on the person in balck could have caused at the same time a strong overexpsoure of the rest of the scene, which could result into a similar "inverted shining" of the singular object. I'll surely try that!

Cheers!

Nick

Okay, here's a rough sketch:

1. Resize and crop (the original was in landscape format)

2. Convert to B&W and add a dutone to create the sepia.

3. Apply Gaussian Blur (abt 0.2%)

4. Add vignetting at the bottom corners.

5. Add a layer mask and sharpen the solitary human figure (radius 0.4, amount 75)

6. Use burn tool (shadows, 30%) to selectively burn the figure and the outline of the bench.

7. Put a 2" wide white frame around the picture.

Whew ! :)

It is so unusual to see that under the right conditions... even darkness may shine, Avi! Though I don't have a clue how the *%&£! you achieved this stunning result, it really caused a revolution to my thinking! I thought it is light that is shining, but here light is shadow, and shadow is light! A mixture of a negative and something that simply escapes my understanding.

As about composition, I find the idea intriguing to make the human being looking so far away, unimportant, replaceable, and still existing!

I'd choose this for a BIP in the hypothetical project "Unusual Photography" - even "Weird Photography"!
