And I wish I'd have always that kind of endless patience to return to some place and try and try again. Many times I still just postpone that and go for "something new". But that kind of retrying seems to happen more and more in a natural way as the time passes by. I notice that now I tend stronger to get the same landscape again and make it better, instead of trying to "collect" as many single shots as possible from here and there. It must be a growing wish for "reductionism", in the sense of "understanding" the landscape (or anything else too) and find out what it is made up of, as you say.
Cheers!
Nick

Hi Nick, I think it is all about trying to display the essence of the scene. Just as you eloquently explained. Sometimes we are guilty of trying a little too hard, as in the cases of the "Disney Landscapes" Sometimes we get lucky and get what we want without much effort. :) But, most of the best images take knowledge, skill and planning. As you know, most of the great landscape photographers go back again and again to the same places trying to achieve that allusive perfect scene. Andre

Ey, what an idea, Avi! You mean the overexpsoure would steal away much of the details that form the surface of the water and thus make up for perception of the water at all? So, then the ship would be in the middle of "heaven", right? I just have to try that! Thanks a lot for the idea!
The ship was moving indeed but at a very low speed. It could have worked with a bit longer exposure too. Perhaps also some half stop wider apperture as it could still retain the important part of the DoF.
Thanks a lot again and cheers to you, Avi!

Fantastic !!!!.. the only other thing I would have tried is to take it with a slightly longer shutter speed, to make the water look ripple-free.. but then again, was the boat moving (then it would have spoiled it !)
best, Avi

Hi Andre,
and thanks a lot for the nice and detailed comment! I must say that I am very glad for being able to get that atmosphere by controlling the camera before leaving it to PS! ;-)
I do notice that your landscapes evolve toward this kind of look lately. I guess that this evolution just comes one way or the other. Most landscapes are nice and fine by themselves, but this kind of reduction to their few main elements seems to be a stricter and thus stronger definition of them. So, it could be that as the time passes by one gets more and more able of just catching with the eyes what makes up for the atmosphere, and then of course enhancing it by using some special exposure technique. Something like being more and more able to really convert the impression to an image. Of course it needs time and also the will to not simply stay at the stage of just capturing some landscape - perhaps it has also to do with photography acting as a teacher for a more conscious perception of what we call "atmosphere" of "beauty"??
Have a nice weekend!
Nick

I am very glad that you like it, Dave, since this was exactly my own intention for the image. It seems that sometimes this method works well.
Cheers,

Thanks a lot for the nice comment, Gustavo. I am especially glad for that, since (at last ;-)) I managed to capture the atmosphere reasonably!

Hi Nick, I really like this one! I like the grain effect from the push, that seems to blend with the fog or low cloud in the background. I also like that the image has a sort of desaturated look to it too. (most likely the purposeful underexposure) You might have guessed I would like that because so many of my own landscapes seem to be going that way lately. The image as whole has a nice dreamy, laid back look about it. It makes you want to be on that boat relaxing. Good job! All controlled with the camera too. :) Andre

I think the graininess adds to the atmospherics of the image, Nick, along with the slight haze and bluish tones. Dave.
