Thanks for your comment, Pat. I am pleased with the image quality of the 300 f/4, even with the TC 17E taking it up to 510mm. I have to remind myself that I do not have VR on this rig and use the tripod - which I did here! At other times I have no problem with hand-held at 1/250 sec. for some of my closeups. The tripod collar is conducive to vibration in the 1/8 sec. range, so I have to make sure to use mirror lock-up.

Buying a D200 does make sense at the reduced prices that are being offered as it is a good camera. Mine has about the same number of shots on it as yours and is working fine! I did order a D300 'though! It may be a bit of a gamble but I suspect that I will appreciate the 1-2 stops gain in ISO and dynamic range. The D3 would be heavenly but I can't justify the price as the dang thing will be obsolete in a year and I am not making any money with it! I will keep the D200 because there are occasions when a second body is handy! The wife is happily using the D70s.

Eb - Amazingly sharp and crisp, especially considering the focal length. This is where a lens quality is shown. On a tripod?

By the way...I just bought a new D200...my old one had about 18,000 shots on it and was broken by my rambuncious dogs!! It still works, but I found someone that wanted to buy it and I made them a good deal. The D300's are not out yet and considering it's price and only a few enhancements (Mega pixels and LCD size), I don't see any major benefits.

I like the lighting and colour, Eb!
