I do not use PS either, but I am able to layer in my little software. I would probably try making a darker layer, place it beneath this original, then using the transparency tool just go over the areas that need darkening until they look better. Here is a very rough example. Not sure why the highlights of the dress are blown, because her skin looks fine.
