A hot air balloon series:
Thirty of the best hot air balloon pilots will be on hand to battle it out in the air during the 5th annual MidFirst Ohio Challenge hot air balloon competition at Middletown’s Smith Park on July 20-21-22, 2007.
The competition is a Balloon Federation of America sanctioned event which allows pilots to gain points toward their national ranking. The top 100 pilots, based on points earned in events such as the MidFirst Ohio Challenge, are then invited to compete in the annual U.S. Hot Air Balloon Nationals, an event held in Middletown 1992, 1993 and 1994. Winner of the national competition goes on to compete in the world hot air balloon event.
After the Nationals were held in Middletown, the number of hot air balloon pilots in the area grew dramatically. Some local pilots have become competition winners.
