A very nice portrait in great tonality and above all selective focus, that enhances the man's face by keeping all detail very sharply depicted there, while the background just serves as the canvas on which he is painted. Even his slightly overexposed profile contributes to the overall characterization of his face expression in relation to the available light. The spectator perceives that he is looking some towards a light source (the sun?) which does stand in contrast to his expression that is rather sunken in thoughts. A very decicive moment.
