About
Odawara Castle was first built at the beginning of the 15th cent. It was afterwards developed into the largest castle of medieval times in Japan. Several times destroyed by earthquakes, it was abandoned in 1870 and most of it dismantled. The remaining wall was destroyed by the great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. Rebuilding and restororation started in 1960. It is a national monument and an important cultural heritage. The Donjon was built as a symbol of the castle, destroyed by eathquake in 1703 and rebuilt in 1706. It shelters several halls with historical artifacts and weapons. Its upper floor commands a bird's eye view of the area.
We need our history to keep today and tomorrow in focus... :)
Love the perspective through the cherry blossom and cypres... The solidness of the stone base/plynth and stairway up into the Donjon, sitting so delicately... The beautiful shapes and lines of the different levels of roof with the curved & carved eaves...:)))
