The dark shadows in the background create a very dramatic mood here. Although I think this would work well in black and white, I feel the subtle use of color adds an intimacy that would be lost with simple black and white especially in the face, and also adds to the dramatic effect of the photo. Finally, the girls expression along with the strands of hair across her face give a candid feel to this portrait. Excellent work.
