Hi
Well if the quality from the D200 get these results I really must try a little harder with the one I borrow. And I do find the lens too slow in focussing but I hadn't thought about putting it on manual....thanks for the inspiration and as usual your comments are appreciated..
Cheers for now

Nicely done Joggie but the B&W (to my eye is better). I sense some disparity in the two eyes here. Also, the color of the lips feel off. Not saying it's not accurate . . . just distracting. These are the points I considered when I decided the B&W was preferred!

Joggie... :))
This is truly a wonderful portrait... You have caught, through this gentlemans eyes, the strength and pride... The set of his jaw and shoulders... He has lived a life control and command, standing tall for what he believed... but, can also imagine he has a wonderful laugh and mischief would glint in those eyes also...
Lovely light and tones, brilliant PoF and DoF Joggie...:)))
Excellent plus Sir...:)))

Thanks Larry - The 70-300 VR is great. I cope with handheld shots at 1/15th of a second in its "active" mode. What I also like is the manual override of the autofocus which allows for quick adjustment in focus between 70mm and 300mm. The lens is sharp throughout with great contrast and colour rendition. The only criticism I do have is some blue fringing in very high contrast areas under some lighting conditions. Other than that its a joy to use! Joggie

love both of these portraits. doesn't sound like you had much time to get what you wanted before his patience wore thin......keeps you sharp and a bit spontaneous.

Just to be contrary (and to express my opinion) I prefer the black & white and I think the B&W pose is superior as well. It is amusing that in this portrait his eyes do telegraph "session over" with more than a hint of impatience showing. --Regards, Jan

A stunning portrait with good skin detail and natural colouring. He certainly does look a litle impatient, I'm used to that too. Regards, Gary
