Why don't we learn from our mistakes - this is such an emotive image, Maryanne - the reflections, the heartbroken man, the tokens of appreciation - another terrible war for America to commemorate - sad, but captured expertly - Regards Lydia

Such memories Maryanne...so emotional for all of us of that era... My entire graduating class of young men were sent off to Vietnam. The ones who came back are still not the same..... Your image has so many reflections in so many ways. 7++++++++++++++++++++ Best wishes, Michele~

Maryanne -- Thanks so much for your comments and the offer of the pictures. I will email you. I was fortunate to not be one of the names on the wall but too many names mark a point in history where our mistakes are reflected as a repeat of the past and a foretelling the future. --Best to you, Jan

Dear Jan, my brother didn't go either. I actually hadn't planned on going, but saw the activity on my way to put in some OT over the weekend (my office was about a block away from the memorial). I walked down to the memorial and and I remember being immediately aware that something extraordinary was going on. I went home and got my camera, thinking I would record the day in photographs for my brother. I don't remember a lot of politicians giving a lot of speeches -- it seemed to be more of a reunion of vets who were there to remember -- and the pain of remembrance was very evident.
Jan, if you'd like to see all my photos from the day, I'd be happy to share them with you. The quality is very uneven, but you are welcome to them if you'd like them (just tell me how to get them to you -- you can email me on maryanne1234567@hotmail.com -- I use that email address for UF correspondence only).
Also, Jan, although it doesn't seem like enough to say, thank you for your service. Vietnam vets were never properly thanked -- and I know that well enough from my brother.
All the best to you,
Maryanne

Maryanne -- Thanks for showing this picture. I am a two-tour vet of Vietnam and have many bad and many sad memories; I cannot visit the wall (too emotional for me) but for some reason I can look at it in photographs. I tried to go the dedication back then but was all wigged out and had to leave. Thanks for showing me the day I missed seeing. --Best to you, Jan

Thanks so much, Doyle. I took this picture a long time ago, gave copies to my brother (who did not attend) and had them filed away in a binder. I looked at the photos with new eyes recently, and this one was the standout.
