About Somehow, I find this the saddest part of the battlefield. You can walk this 800-yard lane and be very aware that this was the site where 5,600 troops from both sides were killed and wounded. From 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., bitter fighting raged along this deeply cut lane (afterward known as Bloody Lane) as Union troops sought to drive the Southerners back.

Nessa, I agree. And when I visited with my son, I was so aware of it, thinking that so many of those boys were just his age.

Thanks for commenting.

I like your background information on this composition. It only makes it more and more meaningful.
A very good historical perspective, I wonder how it would look in B/W or Sepia. Just my opinion, and I am a beginner, never mind.
Regards,
Bhabesh

These would be Confederate dead at Bloody Lane, as the Confederates were firing from the lane at the Union soliders who were advancing toward them.

Historic photo taken by Alexander Gardner, assistant to Matthew Brady, who took 70 photographs of the battlefield starting just two days after the battle.
