About
For those who say photographing breathtaking landscapes u have to be good... Well... I took these with my little Canon SD-450, while driving my boat at 35MPH, hand held and in full automatic mode... Not too hard at all, right? Anyone can do landscapes, u just have to be there.
BTW, I just pre ordered the New Canon 1D Mark III.... Can't wait!!!
Awww, kids...... can we ALL stop fighting ? Peeps? Peta? I have an idea, we'll all get together and head down SAN TELMO way... The TANGO SHOWS will clear everyone's heads.... TANGO HEALS EVERYTHING !!! and you can take that to the bank !!!! I just got a DVD on Buenos Aires, time to INVEST in some apartments (in 5 years you'll thank me).....
"Anyone can do landscapes, u just have to be there." -A Prophet
True. With sufficient light, I can capture a landscape. With any camera. It might even turn out nice.
Landscape photography can be, if you let it, a slow dance with nature and the ultimate, ever-moving light source. Someone serious about capturing landscapes may stalk their subject, study it under different light conditions and photograph the hell out of it, attempting to get THE shot.
A case in point: The Tower of the Americas in San Antonio. As a landscape and architectural shooter, I have shot and shot this symbol, as it is the icon and punctuation mark of our skyline. I have no less than 40 'keeper' shots of this tower, yet I was unsatisfied. Until... http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1008260
Now, I have sated my thirst for this subject, and can truly move on to other things.
While, I'm sure every tourist in downtown San Antonio has taken a photo of this tower, I doubt very few have scoped out angles, thought about the best time of morning or evening to catch it from THIS spot, and been rewarded with something beautiful enough to hang on display.
To say that "anyone can do it" is, in fact, true. Just as anyone can photograph large breasted women under warm lighting.
One of my favorite moments from "Just shoot me" was when the photographer was admiring his contact prints of the fashion shoot he'd just concluded, and was nodding and smugly muttering, "oh yeah. I'm GOOD."
To which David Spade quipped: "So, let me see, you just you photographed one of the most beautiful women on earth, and you made her look good. What's your secret, did you use film?"
'Nuff said. Your attitude is a 1, but I'll give the photo a 3.
Colours are good Pat, and they all run with the same theme. Tell me my friend why would you go and bait people, if all you are after are bites. People are becoming bored with the attitude you are giving, someone gives you a hard critique and they are your enemy for life, why attack a section of photography that you profess not to be great at? And you wonder why the comments on your work are dwindling, if you throw enough mud some will stick. I'm real sorry to see that your FOV is so narrow and you are so insecure with you image that you need to lash out to get comments. You and I have butted heads before over photos and people, we've worked it out so you know I’m not going to bullsh*t you, so flat out Pat, Pull your head in. Post your work, critique like you should and stop stirring the pot, it isn't helping anyone. cheers Jason
Simple fact is many more are upset with your insulting statements, ("Anyone can do landscapes, u just have to be there") but there is no way they would say anything. They want you to keep posting so they can continue droolling over the naked chicks.
what, do u want a cookie for figuring out only one photo was taking at high speed? Next time I will remember to post speed, depth and gps location for my pictures...
Well, even if u don't think so, I think the pictures are something to write home about. If I am someone on vacation in Miami, I would be proud to "write home" and show them these pictures. They might not be up to your landscaping caliber but they are still pretty good and taken with a $250 camera in auto mode...
Now as far as upsetting people, I think u are the only one getting upset. U are taking this too personally. For someone that comments in 1 out of 50 of my shots, usually on an attacking, negative way, u are not a worthy critic. Besides, nobody asked u to "defend" the landscape photographer's community. Who are u? ROBin Hood?
And I don't have a point. The point is made already. For u to read my comment, u had to click on the thumbnail. Why did u do that? U probably thought: yuk, these photos suck or wow, they are pretty good. Either way, u are curious and -usually- silent, unless u have something bad to say about my work.
Read Riny Koopman's comments... She LOVES these shots and seems to know about this type of photos a lot more than I do. If I reached just one person out of 28 with my humble landscapes, then I am happy and u should be too.
THIS IS STUNNING! It'a absolutely captivating. The colours here are amazing. Perhaps the sun could be a little bit further off centre, but otherwise, this image is absolutely gorgeous. The clouds are great and add to the moody atmosphere. Well done...riny
Hi Patrick...you took one of them at 35mph right...the big one? The other two you couldn't have been going that fast. The one out of the 3 that are good is the bottom right one. The other two are nothing to write home about. Why do you say things like that? Are you trying to intentionally upset people. I suppose you have a point you're trying to make. Do you want me to focus on shooting people and show you how easy it is? I don't believe it is as easy as you say it is. If it was then everyones work would be great...and well...it just isn't.
