About The shot was taken on Mahalaya. The word Mahalaya literally means 'big abode'.Mahalaya is the first day which marks the begining of the Durga Puja festival. It is believed that on this day goddess Durga comes to visit her parents every year from her in-law's place. The day is celebrated with thousands of people remebering their forefathers and offering worship to the departed souls in the sacred river Ganga or Ganges.

Indranil - I picked the word "Ode" for my apple picture before seeing this and now I wish I had used a different word. Because your use of it is more proper in the context of this fine and wonderful dramatic picture of this man praying. I really like this and there is much poetry in the spirit of the man and the scene. The near-silhouette is the right way to go; good decision.
--My best regards to you, Jan

Thanks a ton Binu.In this particular case I could have used a low flash to put some highlights. But I felt I would be disturbing the gentleman's prayers and as a photographer I have to respect my subject. So I decided against it.If you technically see then its an underexposure, but again as you said, to me also, the darkness has added the effect I was looking to capture. So,in this case I will rather call myself plain lucky.

i wont agree with swapna here..the beauty of the picture comes from that underexposure(if that is the case)...this picture should have looked ordinary if it was exposed perfectly....that underexposure brings that mystic element to this picture...some times unfinished sculptures looks beautiful than finished ones...congrats dear Indra..a perfect shot for me...
