This would have been an excellent opportunity to utilize the additional latitude offered in HDR (high dynamic range) imaging, where you take several exposures over, normal and under-exposed and merge them in Photoshop.
That would have maintained the excellent definition you have with the water, but would have extended definition to the shadows and trees frame left.

Steve, I would have liked to have taken a longer exposure but didn't have a tripod or ND filter with me. The tree on the left is quite tall, probably 35-45 feet, I can't remember exactly.

Well done. I like the lighting and the composition as the colors pop nicely. I like the inclusion of th egreen grass to offset the golden rocks. I wonder if you took any with a longer shutter speed to make the water look more silky. Also, please tell me the tall pine tree that used to be on you left, part way down the trial is still there.
