Location City -  Deadvlei
State -  SOUTHERN NAMIBIA
Country - Namibia   Namibia
About I waited for the sun to just touch this old trunk as it rised over a big dune to my right. Uncropped with minimal adjustments in PS.

Deadvlei, once part of Sossusvlei, according to scientific theory was cut off by moving (windblown) sanddunes from the rest of Sossusvlei about 900 years ago. The big camelthorn trees was approximately 600 - 700 years of age at that stage. Cut off from the regular water supply of the main wetland the trees all died. Due to the lack of moisture and the extreme temparatures the hardwood cores of the big trees were preserved and many of them are still standing - skeletons of their former glory though. I spent a whole day from before sunrise until late afternoon in this magical place - it was like stepping back into time. While taking photos of the many shapes and textures, I was trying to see this place as it was 900 years ago. Every here and there, along the edges and bottomslopes of the dunes, the water of the extraordinary rainy season of 2006 brought some bright green growth - small pieces of evidence of the former glory of this place! I stood in awe and did not want to go. One sure thing - I'm going back!

WOW!!! Joggie this image is great
Excellent, rich colour and fantastic texture. The strong orange and blue are balanced well with the dark tones of the tree stumps and the compostion is spot on. Oddly, my favourite 'bit'...LOL...is the thin band of green and mauve in the distance that is lifted by the brighter sand around the tree!!
Great desert landscape,
cheers, Bek

Striking Joggie! The first ray shapes the ditails, discovers the textures, plays with the shades. The foreground is beautiful but not kills the subject, the dead tree. It remains a frame that gives a great depth and weighs down the image. Bravissimo!
Take care.
