This statue always make me sad. The child used to have an arm, until a few months ago when someone broke it off. I always imagine that brown scar on the mother's face is a tear for her hurt child; a tear that will always be there, as the child will never heal. Shot in Apeture mode at f/2.8 to limit DOF. Photoshop was used to crop in some, and frame (no other alterations or enhancements). Please leave comments on how to improve, or what you do like about the photo, so I remember to keep doing it hehehe. Please take care -- Rod :)
You have it pegged, Paul. What attracted me to the statue was the arm and that 'tear' mark, both of which made it more than just a mere stone statue (to me). The day was partly sunny, but that statue is situated under trees and surrounded tall hedges. :)
I'm nevcer quite sure how to rate a photo of somebody else's artwork. But in this case, I guess the broken arm and the "tear" make it more than just a copying exercise. I think you've achieved what you set out to do. The statue is rendered very well in soft light (overcast day?) and the broken arm is quite obvious to see.
