I was not especially comfortable shooting this series of photos. I was out of my favorite color negative film (Fuji Reala) and used a film I have little experience with, the weather was lousy, and the light was a bit confusing. From overhead the heavy clouds darkened almost everything, then through a break in the clouds to the east just enough light broke through to really light up the sails. I think I went through an entire roll of film in the very brief window of time that the side lighting lasted. I used metering from the camera in the aperture priority mode, and from a handheld meter in the manual mode.
What a shot! I love the contrast, the rich colors, and especially the framing of the bowspit pointing into the corner. Way to wait for the shot, George!!
