Howdy Doyle..
Just got home, so here attached is a 1:1 crop of the Hamilton #7 Air Race plane. Amazing how grainy it is here, but the print is glass smooth...gotta love it.

Ya know, I think this is a case of JPEG vs. RAW. I'll post a crop later when I get home, but in my printed version, and the RAW, I can see the pilots hands on the stick! The prop is frozen from the speed, and even though the distance was there, that plane was hauling!! It's the first time I locked the IS on the lens to a single direction to capture it clean.
Thanks again for the cool comments and suggestions! ..and for getting the song "Danger Zone" stuck in my head! :)

Good shot Joel and the contrast between the plane and the BG sky is perfect. I can read Hamilton 7 on the right wing and H7 on the nose but . . . to my eye the clarity could have been better. Perhaps a bit faster on the shutter speed since the aperture would have supported it light-wise. From this distance panning wouldn't have been an issue . . . I'm thinking perhaps handheld? Don't get me wrong . . . it's a good shot . . . and your open sky feel works well on this one. All-in-all . . . it's a very dynamic capture and thanks to you I can't get that Kenny Loggin's song "Danger Zone" out of my mind now!! LoL!

The weather certainly was perfect for the show - unfortunately, I couldn't make it down there today. Driving around, traffic was a real pain. I can't imagine going down there on Sunday lol. I might hop a ride w/ a friend though, so we'll see. Looking forward to your pics from today :)

The ships roll in from 11 to 12, the races are at 12:30, and the Blue Angels are out again at 2:30!

Hi Joel,
Good to see you were able to capture some photos from today. Although overcast, I like the simple approach to this shot. Sometimes you have to work with the weather and make the best of it and you certainly did. Nice work.
