An apt backdrop for Orange - Orange light. This is a magical light - of course it is always difficult to do sunsets because of the heavy shadows and high contrasts. I have been cheeky and cropped this image - oops and cloned out the tin roof. Seeinga s you have ( or access to) a D200 and a D2X you have lots of pixels so cropping should not lose print quality. I have to agree with Chris Sitter - this certainly captures the essence of Australia and Courtneys "Four Fires" dtasker@netspace.net.au

Cathy, I don't even know how to respond, with four kids I can't even fathom the depth of loss a parent must experiance over the death of a child. You have obviously grown from the experiance as your attitude is near inspiring and I couldn't agree with you more. My grandmother used to tell me "You'll only regret the things you didn't do". She lived to 89 and I still have a picture of her on her 80th birthday riding a horse! She buried her first born and her husband of 60 years yet never stopped living a day in her life without embracing it. Trust me when I say I have never been one to beleive the female is the weaker sex. Again, thank you for sharing, first your picture, then your advice, both are remarkable.
PS I really think you should experiment with more landscapes!

A glorious sunset picture, Cathy. I've been to Orange. A lovely country town, but very cold in winter. Cheers, Ann.

Chris, that is such sad news. It really does make you look at your own mortality. I figure there are 2 ways of looking at it. You can take the careful road and limit your experiences, or you can realise how fragile life is and grab it with both hands and live it to the fullest. On Sept 11, 2001 our 19 year old son was killed trying to save his mates. Before that I was very cautious and shy. Now I know that life is for living, to do the things you dream of, and to love the the people around you. You still need to be careful but don't let this young fellow's death constrict you. Crikey! That's a bit heavy, but you started it! Here's to more beautiful sunsets and more awesome mountains. Take care. CC

Simply gorgeous, Cathy. What great light. I love most of all the silhouettes of the trees, especially the ones on the far right. And with the fence and building still visible, it gives this a lot of depth. Job well done, my friend.
Best wishes Dave

Cathy, Sadly I should also mention that a 24 year old climber tragically lost his footing on Friday while climbing the same West Lion Mountain I summited on May 19th (featured in some of my earlier postings here),and plummeted some 250 meters to his death. Our mountains may be magnificent but they are also very unforgiving. It has somewhat unnerved me as I can still remember the fear I felt looking down at almost exactly the same place he is reported to have slipped. I knew then there was no second chances, but such a loss certainly reminds us of our own mortality.

I am stunned! I am in awe! What a great shot and thank you so much for sharing. For the record I was drawn to the photo before I even saw it was from you; perhaps you should consider expanding to more landscapes! I just finished Bryce Courtney's "Four Fires" and your picture sums up perfectly the image in my mind when I think of the interior of Australia. I just love the silhouette of the trees against the mountain against the orange sky; even the subtle outline of the white fences add to the composition. What a perfect way to share a part of your home with us, thank you. I shall be keeping a copy of this.

Very beautiful image of the evening. The linear arrangement of colours is very expressive. Uncanny effect! Cordialities:)
