Mary, first I was making a comment to Sheila and typed Mary, not sure where I sent the first comment...working long hours and very tired. Thank you for your comment...if you do have the lightning set the shutter for 30 seconds and just keep clicking when you can. It took about an hour to finally get a shot, but I think it was worth it.

Thank you Mary, I thought about cutting out the roof and pole, but for one there is another bolt of light behind the pole and for another is gave perspective.

Annemette, sorry it has taken so long to respond, working very long hours right now. My son is in Afghanistan, he already did over a year in Iraq. I called his wife last night (in NY) and was surprised to talk to him as he is on 2 weeks leave. Was a nice phone visit. Rain and thunderstorms help me sleep (once I get the dog drugged) maybe we were sisters in a previous life?????? Hope your weather is better, mine is for at least 10 days.

Amazing to have got this. And just so striking. The colours so strong. We have heatwave here but storms very patchy- I will try this if we have one!

Wow, great capture Marlyce! Very dramatic. I really like how you've included the top of the roof and pole. Great job.

I was sad to hear that youīve a son stationed abroad- Afghanistan or Iraq? Nevertheless youīre right that itīs no use worrying all the time when you canīt change a situation anyhow. Keeping up oneīs spirit helps everybody including one self much more than letting dark thoughts and emotions take over. I hope heīll be safe. Funny that you also love thunderstorms because many women are for some reason afraid of it although itīs spectaculary. Take care, Annemette

Annemette, try not to worry...what happens will happen, spend your time being happy with what you have. Easy words, some might say....my son is in the army and deployed to overseas...I worry daily but I can always find something to smile about. I too love the lightning and thunder, just normally have to go long ways from home to see it. Maybe we of a kindered spirit? Always the best to you my friend!

Klaas, weather is suppose to improve, hope yours does as well. Had some rain, all it did was make us feel sticky...humidity is terrible here and normally we have zero humidity. Thanks for your comments

Ray, so glad we did not have the rain until later...think the neighbors would have called the mental hospital had we been in the rain, as it is they look at us funny when we come home from work with cameras around our neck and stop in the middle of the yard. Sometimes they come over to see what we are doing. Our weather is suppose to cool soon, hope yours will be more plesant as well.

Very strange weather. Valley hit the highest in history...we are expecting cooler weather soon. The roof top was kept for perspective, glad you noticed.

I do love lightning/thunderstorms!! A terrific photo of this beautiful moment that is so difficult to take images of. The global heating makes us have a really nice summer. Usually we only have a few days with sunny weather and then we have rain and cloudy weather for some time, but I think itīs been warm for a month now! Very unusual. Although I enjoy it, it also worries me. Best wishes, Annemette

Neat shot Marlyce, it isn't easy to capture lightning, so well done. We too have very bizar weather, it's too hot for weeks now, we have 90 - 95 degrees, normaly this time is arround 75, but here, the humidity is very high, so not very nice to work under these conditions when you're not used to do so. Would like a bit of rain now to cool down a bit. Take it easy under such extreme conditions,
Klaas

Nicely captured Marlyce. Fork lightning always looks incredible. Three nights ago at about 3am we were awakened by thunder and lightning. I grabbed camera, tripod and weather proofing got out on the front lawn and waited and watched getting drenched in my dressing gown..Result....nothing. It was continuous sheet lightning and photographically pretty boring. Still it was very refreshing and helped to cool the air. Like yourselves we have been experiencing abnormal temperatures, all a part of global warming I suppose.
BTW...many thanks for your explanation of a 'redneck' I always knew it was a derogatory term and wondered at it's origins. You satisfied my curiosity. My very best wishes to you sweetie..as always....Ray
