Thanks Melanie! It's funny how different people see things differently. I thought the tree helped this composition a lot and tried to get it into the shot to sort of ground the image. I have other shots without it . . . they felt too abstract . . . somehow. Maybe I should re-look at them. Anyways, I love hearing comments like yours which help very much for me to get another thought or two to consider. Thank you!

I couldn't believe it when Marlyce first explain the illegality of rockets etc.....how bizarre.
Lovely colourful shot Doyle with beautiful rich colours and wonderful shapes and patterning from the bursts. You have done so very well with this composition and in an area I never seem to get any breaks. Cheers to you my good friend.....Ray

Thanks Klaas . . . I did, indeed, leave the shutter open . . . tripod and IR remote shutter release to prevent shake . . . and it seems to have worked well for me!

Thanks Robin . . . I had tried to get shots from another direction but the smoke had become too much when I lucked out to see this just as it started up.....these are all but the very first shot from one street over . . . I probably should have thanked him!

Thanks Dave and you're quite right. I was lucky here in that the first shot up was where I was pointed and small but long lasting enough to set a focus . . . not infinity . . .then stand by with the remote and viola! It was the intial fireworks from one street over (without the smoke that ended up there as the evening progressed). I think the halo issue comes from the smoke partly . . . certainly the 'muddy' sky does. So . . . timing is everything.

Beautiful firework capture Doyle, did you leave your lens open for 30 secs? Very good work, I should try it sometime, but here it's only legal on 00.00 new years day, and when city councils have a special occasion to do so.
Love the colours in this one.

Great shot Doyle! Nice of the illegal shooter to fire his goods in such a fashion, helped out in the composition department! Brilliant color, great clarity, and as Dave mentioned, no halos...I'd say perfectly exposed my friend! For me fireworks are always magical...

Some excellent color of the sky and exposure. Fireworks are not that easy as you would expect. Usually, there is so much haloing around the fireworks themselves, you have to do a lot of clean-up of the photo. Not to mention the smoke in the air from previous explosions, usually makes for a very muddy photo.
