Hi Dave. It is moisture on the blade of grass. As far as a backdrop....nothing, it was just empty space. I took most of these in the early morning while the sun was low and there were still lots of shadows. I used PS to then darken the background even further. Specifically, I reduced the gama and increased the contrast to get the background black.
