Self portraits are difficult enough, but with this huge latitude in lighting, I am pleased you nailed the highlights. My only regret is that you didn't get the entire eye in frame.
The darkness behind you is an opressive weight, and splendid use of negative space.
What image editing software do you have, Naomi? I have some tips for you, but don't want to confuse the issue by referencing something not in your menus. ;)

You did a wise thing here: expose for the highlights. Huge differences in light and dark like this are the most difficult to capture. You can either expose for the highlights, or set your exposure value (EV) to -2 and then (if you want) raise levels in PSP or Photoshop to restore whites to full value. I'm really happy for you, and glad to see you back, Naomi.
