I think it's a bit too strong to state B&W images are all boring, but I have to agrree, it's commonly over use to force an atmosphere on images.
In this one, I think the B&W does look good, and it's definitely a proper use of monochrome film.... I do think the columns of the church are a bit overexposed, or at least look a bit too bright. On the other hand, the roof and arches show a tremendous amount of texture and contrast, which is really nice. I think you could dodge the roof in the print a bit more, so the tonal range in the columns become more balanced. Good shot, though, and well taken, the strong perspective definitely works in your advantage.
