Ivo,
The Northern Cardinal was originally a highly sought after cage bird because of its bright colours and beatiful song(s). It started out in the south-east and has been moving north and west with the rising popularity of backyard feeders. I would have to say that you have made a very astute observation.

Correct me if I am wrong but I find that every year we seem to have more Cardinals in our region. They just seem to be everywhere.
