Hi Domjan

Thanks for your comment. I'm may use a 1Ds but I will be the first to jump up and shout that I don't know everything. So your suggestion is more than welcome. I have used the merge to HDR function before and it does a fine job like you say.

The problem I have is that my shooting style means that I seldom use a tripod and I find that if you dont use a tripod to get your series of images all the same it just doesn't work that well.

Thanks again for your comment and suggestion. I appreciate it.

Cheers
Mark

Wow Mark, you don't miss do you? This is great, a profoundly sad feeling, and your title...wow...great work as always! The composition and tones are beautiful. Most people would walk past this but you turned it into a moving and wonderful tribute. Well done..big hugs!!

Amazing picture and title Mark. So atmospheric and still. Makes you really wonder about past lives there. Like the start of a film.

I never tought I would say this to someone with a 1Ds MkII, but seeing you like taking difficult, extremely high dynamic range photos, have you tried HDR (high dynamic range) imaging? It's a really fantastic method that enables you to capture both a deep shadow detail and a highlight detail (not that you are not doing a fine job but you would get much more control). I discovered it a few days ago and as it is relatively unknown, am trying to spread the word :) Using a tripod you shoot a couple of different exposure photos (2EV apart) to cover the whole dynamic range of the scene. Then you combine these images with a PS CS, Photomatrix or some other HDR enabled software. Using an advanced tone mapping you then 'collapse' the 32bit/chanel HDR image to 8bit while preserving all of the original detail. The results can be fantastic!
Take a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging
http://www.hdrsoft.com/
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/high-dynamic-ran ge.htm

If you are lucky enough to be using Linux, there are a few quite good and free programs for HDR imaging.

excellent picture. The framing and the subject are great. I like how the light drops in on the centre of the picture through the roof and window. It highlights the interior very beautiful. It looks like you softened the edges on the picture, which i don't think is necessary given the impact the light already has. But nevertheless, nice shot!

Mark, nice capture here although very melanholic in first glance is suggestive as well so I can hear the old voices and old interesting stories too. Nature reclaim is on the way and the faded down colors make great highlights of eeriness. Cool, n.j
