Yes you are both correct. The original velvia slide was scanned with a cheap flatbed scenner so the sharpness, contrast etc was effect drastically. It really is dreadful here. Now with the digital camera I don't have this sabotage to deal with. Thanks for the time and comments.

I think maybe the photo at this size doesn't live up to the promise of the thumbnail - perhaps its a problem with the scanning of the image, or the paper the original was printed on, as it looks like it was printed on photocopy paper and then scanned.

you shot this in a fine time of day,Andrew,and the mood created by the sky colors and the long-exposed milky water is nice. i think the effect might be stronger if the sky was a bit darker and the whole image sharper ;-) regards, kostas
