Another outstanding photograph of these elegant birds!! Do you photograph them in the wild?
You do have some gorgeous photos of them.

I might be inclined to crop off a bit of the foreground, above the bluish highlight. and I love the rest of the background as it is!

And as with the last egret photo (I just commented on) I think that especially around the head/eyes of the bird, should be sharper.

Very nice work, Darlene,
Lori :)

The birds themselves are not soft but I agree that if there is a soft look about them it is due to the white plumage and nothing more. The wispy feathers are perfectly sharp like the beaks and eyes. I am pleased that you cropped as Andre suggested, it would have been something that I'd've overlooked myself....the second posting is the better but, not by that much. The delicate colours in these beautiful creatures' beaks is wonderful, the texture in the lead tree is superb and the DOF, to me, is perfect. An excellent wildlife composition and a great addition to your portfolio my dear Darlene. Very best wishes to you as always.....Ray

Another beauty, Darlene. A pity the background couldn't have been softer so the birds stood out more. Otherwise a great capture. I love the detail on the feathers. Cheers, Ann.

Que bonita pareja, ese plumaje tan blanco que contrasta con la textura y el color de los árboles. Preciosa Darlene!. Felicitaciones!!!

I do understand, don't worry! But I will always try the suggestions and if I don't like them, trash them!

But what do you mean by yours not being gospel, I thought it was! (Smile) Take care my friend! Darlene

Thanks so much my friend! The early morning light at Lake Martin this morning helped me greatly in getting this image. Glad you like it! Darlene

Hi Darlene,
That's exactly the way I imagined it.
You have to remember though. Don't take everything I say as the gospel. I'm not an expert by any means. I'm sure that for every person that likes this version, there will be one that likes your original better. That's the great thing about photography.... it's so subjective.
Andre

Thanks for the comment Kathy! And I think the new CC feature is great! I love getting feedback, everyone sees things that we don't see and I love finding those things out! That 's how I learn, and I really appreciate all the constuctive critiques, I have been on a couple of websites where they would tell you to move the birds to the left, take birds out of the picture, among other things that I did not feel was very constructive . Give me ways to improve my image but not change everything about it so that it's not the same image when we're through!!@ I like the critiques I've gotten so far! Sorry for the run on......Keep looking and suggesting! Take care my friend! Darlene

Magnificent shot of these two, Darlene! Very well composed between the two trees, and framed by the branches and twigs. Great detail, too!
Dave.

And yes I was shooting with the 600mm with a 2x and I always have some problem with sharpness when using it. I did crop off a little from the top, but obviously not enough! I don't take out a lot of branches (yes I do take some out but sometimes my cloning needs practice!)I am going to redo this one per you suggestions and will post in below! Thanks so much for the suggestions, I love them. that's how I learn!! Take care my friend and be looking for the new and improved image! Darlene

Thanks so much for the critique, that is exactly what I need to hear. I do want to improve and I know everyone sees something different in each photo. I will keep everything you said in mind and I will put it to use I promise! I really appreciate it and thanks for the wonderful tips, they will be used on the next one! Take care my friend and keep those critiques coming! Darlene

Nice capture, Darlene! After reading Paul and Andre's comments...I agree with Paul that it is a tad soft, but I think that is due to the whiteness of the birds. As Andre said, the legs and beaks are sharp. As far as Andre's suggestion...I wouldn't have thought of that, but I think he is right. Those upper branches don't bother me, but I think it would be better without them. Another great capture, Darlene!
What do you think about the new CC feature?
Kathy

Andre Denis Andre Denis   {K:66327} 3/2/2006
Hi Darlene,
Another really nice one from this current Egret series. I read Pauls comments about the softness. All I can say is if there is any there, it doesn't bother me. Those legs and beak look pretty sharp to me. I suppose when you use a multipier with 600mm there will be a certain amount of softness.
What I would like to suggest is to crop away the top fifth of the image just below the big horizontal branch. and then maybe take out the skinny little branch that would remain in the photo. I don't really think the top part of the image as it is now adds anything to the image or the story that the title promots.
It is a great shot! I would just make those two little changes. What do you think?
Andre

I love the capture as always..but, since it is a CC photo I will comment about a few things :)...it seems a bit soft, could be due to the lens length and adapter.. the composition seems just a little off due to the positions of the egrets, the one in the foreground seems to blend into the scene and does not stand out very well... having said all that, still a great photo.. love the green color on the birds, nice work

What graceful looking birds! That looks like a pretty tenuous nest tho :-) Great exposure of the whites. I like the compositioon on this very much! best wishes, Larry
