About The door opened with a groan, as if being rudely wakened from a deep sleep. We stepped inside and seemed to be walking into a portal taking us beyond our own time & into some strange and unusual place.

The first sight to befall our eyes was nearly enough to make us wish we had never ventured beyond the doorway…

This tree stood old & gnarled... as if twisting with pain from deep within its sorrowful trunk… slurping only poison up through its ancient roots. A red mark flanked its malformed side, a mark that may finally see the end of this monstrous abnormality… a red mark that at first glance looked like blood oozing from its knotted bark.

What horrors had this tree been witness to? For surely this unsightly thing belonging in dark aged stories spoke only in the deepest dark hours of the night to scare those more faint hearted folk amongst us!

We moved passed the tree to see finally the sun did penetrate the walls of this deep place & as with all life, within beauty can be found.

To be continued…

I'm sure this tree has a lot of stories to tell. I'd bet there are many happy ones. I love how the branches are dancing the the light you caught on the top part of the tree.
