About Same forest as the other two, same foggy morning. Obvious use of a ND Grad filter, but I liked the effect.

Desaturated mostly in PS.

Kim, I've been browsing through your portfolio, and find it really difficult to choose a favourite:) I think your work is excellent; you have an astonishing eye for composition, colour and detail. I always enjoy misty forests, but it was difficult to choose. Your macro shots are excellent too. I'm glad you took the time to fill in the stats, Very interesting (looooong exposure and the kayak photo)

I like the near monochromatic touch of this photo; it works very well to enhance the mood. The frosty look is excellent. Adds a scense of chill. Great work!

Cheers,

Hugo

A big thanks to everyone who has taken the time to look and comment on this image. With the response gathered here it has given me the courage to enter it in a photo contest.
Since I'm now on the west coast I'm hoping to have more deep forest shots to upload soon!

Thanks again everyone!

I have been away from taking photos for some time but I remembered some of your pictures.
This is fantastic. It looks like a painting. I need to work on PS more AND get some filters.

Complimets for the lighting (even if it is natural, you catched a very special moment)

This is an intriguing image, Kim.
Sometimes I wonder if it is better to know details or not (for example the ND grad filter info). Although intellectually I want information, the mystery sometimes fades a little after you know how it was done, or how it works. For example, I once read a series of articles on the scientific reasoning behind the rainbow. Now, when I look at a rainbow, I look for the second (inverted sequence) rainbow, and the dark area in between. In some ways the science detracts from the simple magic of the moment. It is distracting. Once you know the science, it is hard to go back and simply enjoy the view.

I like both the original and Alisa's version of this photo for different reasons. Alisa's sepia suggestion has a nice, antique storybook feel, while the original screams out "winter" without any frost or snow in sight. Very cool. I like how you've desaturated it, though it would be nice to see the white on the ground (the stream, the fern) toned down ever so slightly.

Kim, I think the green tones add a marvelous touch of fantasy to this image. The sepia tones are nice, but sepia always makes me think of "the past". Your seafoam green makes this quite "other-worldly". Very nice job either way.

Best regards,
SOS

Thank you everyone for the support and great comments. Alisa, your enchanted forest has a nice feel to it as well... I'll have to play some more before I print. Thanks again!

Hi Kim -
Here is my "enchanted forest" version. The greens are just a bit too frosty for me, but I love how the tilt of the composition leads you into the path and toward the light.
I added contrast and color by going to enhance/hugh*saturation/colorize and then playing with the color tones.

This is awesome...the almost monochromatic feel with the touch of green at the bottom. The mist is great. The only thing that bugs me a little tiny bit is how dark the tree on the left gets at the top. Otherwise great shot.
Cheers, Marc
