People often say that pictures of sunsets usually end up boring and uninteresting, but I insist on the opposite. In fact, it's hard to shoot a sunset that's not beautiful and straight out spectacular. It can be hard to end up with a sunset that really stands out in the crowd, but it seems to me that's just what you've got here. Great shot, Sean. Just amazing. I would give just about anything to experience this.......

This is the stuff people invent and put on franklyn mint plates and people say it to colourful to be true. Fantastic. A joy.

What timing. A real beauty. Is this Carlsbad/Oceanside?

Splendid. Only way to improve on this is to have it hanging on a wall, not a screen.

sue, anne: thank you
andrew l: sorry, forgot to answer your question earlier. this is in newport beach between the wedge and the balboa pier.
apparently, the dolphins being there is a nightly occurence based on the crowd that was gathered along with the few folks i had talked to. they were only about 20 yards or so off the beach, very close. they were feeding as well as playing. needless to say, i will be going back this wknd. 8)

Sean, this is absolutely magical! I envy you for both your luck at having this opportunity and your skill at capturing it. Added this to my favorites!

This is the better of the two, I think. Really quite beautiful. A small crop of the bottom might strengthen the juxtaposition of the dolphin and sun a bit, but a minor point. Great preparation to catch this. Colors and brightness look good on my screen. Very nice!

Sean, I don't think the scan looks too dark but I know what you are frustrated about. I think I found the solution with Velvia from a tip I got in a magazine. It suggested setting your ISO at 32 for Velvia but then processing the film as normal. Since doing that I've been much happier with my results.
As for this photo, its really brilliant. The colors are magnificent and the capture of the dolphin is just perfect. There's such a wonderful feel to this shot. This one is a real gem in your already outstanding portfolio. Keep up the great work.

Sean, the colours here (even though you say the scan is dark) look tops! The sunset, dolphins, composition, everything is perfect. Where abouts is this anyway? It looks spectacular, I can't improve it at all.
