I recently bought my Panasonic LUMIX 8 MegaPixel camera with 12x Optical Zoom, specifically to do better moon photography. I've just started. And with practice, I expect to improve my moon images. If I set the camera to 3MP, it will create a 19.1x "Optical" (Not digital) zoom. I am still experimenting with that and hoping to get some detailed shots even closer than this one.
If you set your camera to ISO 200 for example, set your exposure to f/16 with a shutter speed 1/200 (1/ISO). You want to expose for the moon, not the dark sky. I'd be curious to see how it works for you.
"1/ISO"? I don't understand. Did you mean 1/150th of a second?
Thanks for your compliment and advice.
Speaking of ISO, my camera gives choices of 80, 100, 200, & 400. With night sky, I understand 80 is best, since 400 has a lot more grain. In general photography, I prefer 400, because it's easier to shoot without the flash.
So far, I'm finding it's easier to successfully photograph the moon when it appears in daylight. So far, my night shots have just been a flat white disc, with no detail. Any tips are appreciated. I look forward to Feb. 13, the next full moon, to try again.
