of the two, I like this one better Tony - breathtaking actually! but here comes the nit ;) - I find the sky incredibly intense with the deep blue but just a tad overpoloarized. This is one of those times where the bright sun works to a photographer's advantage ie: with the frost on the trees.

I find this picture very good, almost breath-taking... Maybe it's because here you did not breathe on the lens.
:-)) (Basically, I prefer this one...)
P.S: I never really liked breath effects - just my taste though... Have you tried Cokin's "Dream" filter at aperture 8 or 11 on a very bright shot like this...? It's very nice - to me at least - and keeps the image overall photographic, while just adding some glow... May be worth a try... Cheers.
