Thanks Sheila! The numbers that you gave solidifies what I had in mind, so thanks for the input. 7 or 8 people is a lot different than 1 kid! Before this 3 has been the max and that was a challenge to get them all focused. ) I appreciate your input and will let you know how it goes. )

Hi Susie! You're right about the f-stops. The higher the number the more you will have in focus. If you use the AV mode (Aperture Priority Mode) on your camera, you can set the f-stop to whatever you want and the camera will set the shutter speed accordingly. What you want to watch for is that your shutter speed doesn't set itself too low. Let's say you set the f-stop to f/22 and the shutter speed adjusts to 1/30 then you will want to scroll to a lower f-stop (f/20 etc.) until you find a shutter speed that will work for the conditions. I hope that helps and it's not too confusing.

On the PS, I know it's going to be so frustrating because I got some software with my camera (I'm sure you got it with yours too) that is so confusing I don't know what to do with it. I just figured that I won't waste my time trying to figure it out since I know that I want to get PS anyway. I will just stick with what I know until I can upgrade. :)

Let me know how the photo shoot goes.

:)Sheila

Hi Sheila,
I'm not all that saavy when it comes to the settings...I usually let the camera do the picking for me! ) Kathy and I are going to photograph a family pretty soon though and I was thinking of playing around with the f-stops to figure out how to get as much of the family in focus as possible. I was thinking of using the highest I can, do you think that would work?
As far as the XT I really like it because it's considerably lighter than the previous. My first one started taking pics that were about 7/8 black screen. No one could figure it out so Costco gave me a new one. Yay!
Oh, definitely get PhotoShop Elements. There is quite a learning curve, but I think you'll love it. I used to use Picture It, and am glad I learned so much from it, but PS has so much more to offer.
Happy New Year! Hope to "see" you soon! )

Thanks Kathy. I'm having a lot of fun shooting with my new camera. I love that I can see my mistakes right away and try figure out how to correct them right then and there rather then waiting to get the film back and then trying to remember all the conditions of the shot.

Thanks Susie! I'm having a lot of fun trying to figure out my new camera. I thought about maybe using a different f/stop (maybe f/11 or higher) to get everything in focus on this photo, but I thought the focus on the hat fit the title for the hunt better.

How do you like the XT? Is it very different from the one you had?

I really think I need to get PS now because I'm noticing that I'm losing a lot of detail whenever I work on my photos with my Picture It program. They look great when I open them up from the camera, but when I open them up with my Picture It program I notice that so much of the detail is gone. I think that I will be picking up PS sometime this month!

Hi Sheila!
I agree with Susie...you and that camera appear to be getting along very well! Nicely done and very cute!
If I had more time I would check out the scavenger hunt. It sounds like fun!

Great cropping Sheila. I love this. The bright pink is really eye catching. Nice job! You're doing very well with your new camera! I was wondering about the focus as well until I read Dev's comment and it makes perfect sense. Good one.

I did focus on the hood rather than her face because this particular photo is supposed to represent "headwear" for a photographic scavenger hunt. Since I was shooting the photo for the "headwear" shot, I decided to put the focus there. Otherwise, I would agree with you that the focus should have been more on her face if it were just a portait of her.

Anyway, thanks so much for looking at my photos! If you would like more info on the scavenger hunt that I've been recently posting for, you can find it at www.sh1ft.org/26things. It's a fun little challenge! :)

Sheila, I like the colors and the composition. I am not sure about the focussing though. Looks like the focus is on the hood than on the eye.

Happy new year!!

Thanks Mohamed! I'm doing a photographic scavenger hunt at www.sh1ft.org/26things. I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's a great creative challenge for me!

I haven't been posting or commenting much this last month because I was so busy with the holidays. I'm hoping to have more time now that they are over.

I love your work! Thanks for stopping by to take a look at mine!
